Privacy and cookies
Last updated 28-10-2026. Prototype version: facts marked “to be confirmed before launch” are not settled yet.
For players
Everything you do in the Academy stays on this tablet. We don't send your name, answers, drawings or photo anywhere. You only give a nickname. Your grown-up can delete it all at any time.
Who we are
Ball and a Wall Academy is a learning game for 8 to 12 year olds. This prototype was built by TLEP for Ball and a Wall. The organisation responsible for your data when the app launches is Ball and a Wall's legal name, address and contact email (to be confirmed before launch).
What we collect, and where it is kept
The app saves its progress in this browser's own storage on this device (IndexedDB). It holds:
- the player's nickname, club, kit design and celebration choices;
- progress, answers, Touches, stamps, cards and badges;
- reflections the player writes, draws or records as a voice note;
- a card photo, only if a grown-up has turned photo cards on;
- Court Captain photos added in Academy admin;
- settings such as text size, contrast, movement and read-aloud.
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. The grown-up's email typed during setup is only used on that screen in this prototype and is not saved or sent.
Voice
- Read-aloud uses the tablet's own voice.
- Voice answers are off until a grown-up turns them on in Settings. When on, the tablet's speech service turns speech into text. On some devices that service sends the sound to Apple or Google, under their own privacy terms.
- Voice notes in reflections are recorded and kept on this device only.
Cookies, tracking and adverts
The app sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or session recording. Fonts, images, video and 3D models are served with the app, not from other companies, so no banner is needed.
Hosting
The app's files are delivered by Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare handles technical details such as your IP address to deliver and protect the site. Retention of those records and any international transfer safeguards are from the live hosting agreement (to be confirmed before launch).
Why we use it, and the legal basis
The app uses the saved information only to run the game on this device: to remember progress, show the player's card and keep their settings. The lawful basis for the live app is confirmed by Ball and a Wall with its data protection adviser (to be confirmed before launch), and the app is built to the ICO Children's Code: high-privacy defaults, no profiling, no nudges to share, and parental controls.
How long it is kept
Until it is deleted. A grown-up can delete everything with Settings, Reset the demo, or by clearing this site's data in the browser. A card photo can be deleted on its own from the Cards screen.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to and move personal data. As the data stays on your device, you can do most of this yourself in the app. For anything else, contact Ball and a Wall's privacy contact (to be confirmed before launch). You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes too, and anything important will be shown in the grown-ups area.
