Our aim

We want every child to be able to play and learn. The Academy is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA.

What you can change

In Settings, without a grown-up:

  • bigger text and wider spacing;
  • an easier-to-read font;
  • high contrast and calmer colours (labels and icons still carry the meaning);
  • movement off, which stops animations, spins and sweeps;
  • read-aloud buttons on every prompt, using the tablet's own voice.

Answers can be tapped, typed or drawn. A grown-up can also turn on voice answers.

How it was checked

  • 28-10-2026: every main screen checked at tablet sizes for button names, image text, form labels, headings, page landmarks, duplicate ids, text size and sideways scrolling.
  • 28-10-2026: 16 screens checked at 320 pixels wide, the narrowest width in WCAG's reflow test. None scroll sideways.
  • Buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels, with a few small exceptions listed below.
  • Keyboard focus shows a clear outline.
  • Screen reader testing: not run yet.

Known limitations

  • The 3D globe, collector case and celebration player are visual. The same information is in the lists and text beside them.
  • The small print inside trading cards is part of the card art; the same numbers appear in larger type on the Cards screen.
  • The workbook's stage bar has ten narrow buttons (37 by 47 pixels), above the 24 pixel minimum.
  • The policy links at the foot of the welcome screen are 32 pixels tall; the same links are full size in the grown-ups area.
  • On the narrowest phones (320 pixels), the player's name in the top bar is shortened. It shows in full on the Cards screen.
